New Winter Hours

With the welcome of winter, and of course little Jacob (born November 1st, 2011) - MACADI Jewellery will be reducing our boutique hours to Thursday 11-6, Friday 11-6 and Saturday 11-5. We will be available from Sunday to Wednesday by appointment only, so please feel free to contact us. You may see the lights on in the Studio on our closed days, we are working away, making new jewellery!

NEW Jewellery for a New Year!!!

Watch for our NEW repurposed gold collection - NEW wedding bands and engagement rings. There's lots in store for 2012 so, keep an eye on us. And please remember you can always follow us on Facebook - "like" us if you do!

Valentine's Day

Watch for round two of our "sweetheart" charm pendants as we near the month of Feburary - what a sweet way to show some love. These popular "sweethearts" will be available in sterling and gold vermeil (gold plated sterling silver.)

Welcome Baby Jacob!

1-11-11

November certainly was a more interesting month than I had planned for. Our dear Jacob decided to make an early entrance into the world. It was a rough beginning for all of us, but he is now home and thriving!

He had brought so much joy and love into our lives already. I really cannot get enough of him!

Christmas is quickly approaching and the lovely ladies of MACADI have been very busy creating custom pieces and stunning gifts for the shop! Please come in and see what they have been working on.

Here is a sneak peak of some necklaces that will be sprinkling in one by one as they are completed.

Hello everyone,

It is now time for me to listen to my body and start to slow down at work. It has been quite the transition, both my mind and body preparing for the arrival of our little one. Even though I am not in the studio as much as I would like to be, I still have ideas brewing and more designs on the way. I have also prepared some work that I can do at home, so please look forward to new pieces at MACADI! Melissa will be taking on special orders for the holiday season. So please come in soon if you have any ideas!

MACADI's own Gloria wins big at JCK this year! At the end of a very long weekend of tradeshows this August, Gloria cast her ballot at the Jewellery Business Magazine booth and won the ipad2 giveaway. We think she deserved it :)

2011 Studio Tour

Every September Elora-Fergus Artists open their doors and welcome visitors to tour their studios and workshops to see how it all happens. Yesterday MACADI Jewellery was filled with Studio Tour-ists delighting their senses on the stunning September day. Visitors poked around our workshop learning about rolling mills, bench pins and RTV molds. Its always fun to open up such niche realms to the outside world - you never really know the impact that these shared moments can have, so open the doors . . .

Old Gold, New Life

This past month we have seen gold prices soar beyond belief. What are we doing here in the studios of MACADI jewellery? Well, people are bringing us their old gold and we are breathing into new life. As surprising as it may be, not everyone is liquidating their baby rings, inherited gold pieces and old wedding bands. At MACADI Jewellery we have seen is a surge in our client's creativity and flexibility when it comes to custom work. Clients bring us their old gold pieces and we melt them down into an ingot, forge it and do jewellery fabrications on site. There is a tendancy towards sentimentality here while people also like knowing that they have made less of a footprint and saved themselves the cost of having to invest in new gold for their project. People are still getting married, and gold is still changing hands, so choosing a jeweller who will take the time to repurpose their existing material means something.

MACADI News: August 2011

BABYTIME...

As you may or may not know, our beloved designer/goldmsith/shop owner Mandy is expecting a child! She is growing nice and round and so she will soon start to slow down. As such, Mandy will be accepting custom orders up until the end of August and will start to take them up again in the New Year. In the meantime, MACADI Jewellery will be in business as usual: In house designer and goldsmith, Melissa Gobeil will continue to be available for custom projects and Gloria will also be around to keep things on course.

Well, one of us went as far west as possible in this country and the other went just as far east. But alas we have returned and are happy to be home and in full Elora summer swing. The summers around here bring lots of new faces, beautiful local foods, festivals, art and sounds. Come by for a visit before the market or on your way to the gorge to cool off...Happy summer to all and to all a cool night.

Did you know that a pearl is the result of an irritant or foreign body in a Oyster or other mollusk? Mollusks create layers and layers of nacre around an irritant in order to protect themselves from it! What a beautiful way to deal with irritation. Let us learn from our beloved mollusks and devote ourselves this month to adorning our June born loved ones with this beatiful creativity.

Since a very young age, jewellery has stirred my passion. I have vivid memories of connecting with my grandmother around the beautiful objects in her world, and so I continue on using this as a medium to connect. My jewellery studies took place at George Brown College in Toronto where I learned to wield the tools to bring ideas to life. Simplicity is at the core of my intent. I have a love of form that begs attention; clear lines that upon careful viewing reveal restful subtleties. I currently work for MACADI JEWELLERY as a studio goldsmith and find much inspiration in the collaborative process of design.

Born and raised in Fergus Ontario, I have always been inspired by unique organic forms and shapes. I moved to Toronto in 2005 to persue a Jewellery Arts Career and graduated from the 3 year jewellery program at George Brown College. I furthered my studies in Gemmology at the Canadian Gemmological Association. It wasn't until I interned with a Toronto Fashion Jewellery Designer, Dean Davidson, that I realized I really wanted to push the envelope of wearable art in fashion. Inspired by the material itself, I work mainly in Silver and Gold for now. Metal is an incredible medium, as you can maipulate its properties to create textures that can be turned into structured, organic looking pieces.

Making, learning and doing were the themes of my upbringing. I am happiest when busy and jewellery is a wonderful way to combine expression with the satisfaction of creating something enduring. I completed a degree in goldsmithing at Georgian College but I learned craftsmanship from the industrious people in my family, especially my dad who can build anything from a house to a Model T. Whimsy comes from my mother who took me on "archaeolgical" digs through the century-old rubbish pile on her parent's farm in Arthur. My grandparents taught me to paint, sew, bake, feed cattle and anything else that took my fancy.
I love ancient things dug from the earth. I hope others will think of my pieces as unearthed treasures, rare and precious artifacts. I make them but they have their own history.
